Getting Started
1) Install the Apps
To get started with the challenge, there are several apps that need to be installed.
- You will use the LibreLink app to scan your sensor, and the Levels app to view all of your Levels data, log your meals/exercise activities, and learn from your insights.
- You’ll use the Wearable Challenge app to log your daily habits and track your challenge stats.
- Create a profile using your email (instead of Apple ID)
- Click the "x" to exit the subscription screen
- ⚠️Then, notify us via this form and we will grant your account with free access to the Othership content throughout the challenge.
2) Join the community
Our challenge community can be an important way for you to learn, share, and stay connected with others that are going through the challenge along with you.
Here are our intentions for the cohort chat group.
- ✅ This community is a private space for you to share and learn with others in your cohort.
- ✅ Post all of your wins, struggles, discoveries, questions you have along the way. Someone can likely learn from or help you.
- 🔔 We encourage everyone to share/post on the chat as much as you feel like sharing. If you find that you are receiving too many notifications, you can mute a group in Telegram.
- 🤝 Kindly, avoid posting any support or technical-related inquiries to this space. If you do have questions, email hi@wearablechallenge.com or feel free to send me a direct message on telegram.
How it Works
- You pay $298 to join the challenge. This covers sensors, Levels membership, and challenge costs.
- The challenge kicks off with 3 free days. You get 3 free days at the beginning of each sensor (6 free days total). You’ll use this time to experiment with your new sensor.
- After the trial days, your goal is to complete all challenge objectives each day.
- Fail to complete all objectives, and you lose $25 for that day. Your disqualified days go into the challenge pot.
- At the end of the challenge, one player can win the pot (less our challenge fee).
The Habits
Complete the following three objectives to retain your stake each day.
No 120mg/dL+ Glucose Spikes Keep your blood glucose levels below 120mg/dL for all 28 days. Glucose spikes from exercise will not disqualify you. Since CGMs have a calibration period, you’ll have 3 free days at the beginning of each sensor. 🔎 Objective verified via CGM
Daily Exercise Complete any of the listed exercises below each day.
- 10,000+ steps per day
- HIIT workout
- Strength/Resistance training
- Low-Intensity Cardio (running, cycling, rowing, tennis, other)
- Yoga
- Pilates
🔎 Objective verified via Challenge App habit tracker
Daily Breathwork Complete at least one breathwork session on Othership each day. As a challenge participant, you’ll get free, exclusive to Othership’s 500+ guided breathwork sessions. Learn more about the impact of diaphragmatic breathing on metabolic health, how breathwork can improve HRV, and more benefits. 🔎 Objective verified via Othership mobile app session count
Important Dates
April 11th: Apply Sensor
Apply your sensors first thing in the morning on this date. Do not apply it before this date. Follow the Levels instructions on proper placement for best performance. We recommend also applying the performance covers included.
April 11th - April 14th: Trial Period
You will have 3 days to eat foods and/or exercise to see how your glucose levels respond. Use these days as a trial to determine what foods work well & what foods cause spikes. During the trial days, you keep your stake ($20/day). We recommend using this period to gradually transition into building the habits for the 5 daily objectives.
April 14th: Challenge Officially Starts 💪
The challenge officially starts on this date at 12:01 am (your time zone).
April 25th: Switch Sensor
Each sensor lasts 14 days. This date is your sensor changeover date. If you need to change your sensor on any day other than this date, please report it here.
April 25th - April 27th: 2nd Sensor Calibration Period
During this time, any glucose related spike will not disqualify you from keeping your stake while the sensor calibrates. You must continue with all other challenge objectives in order to keep your stake.
May 8th: Challenge Finishes 🎉
The challenge officially ends on this date at 11:59 pm (your time zone). Congratulations!
Win the Pot
All disqualified stakes are entered into the challenge pot. At the end of the challenge, we’ll draw from all the entries into the raffle. Here’s how you add entries into the raffle.
Qualified day is 1 entry Each day you meet all habits is an entry into the challenge pot. Adjusted days are count as an entry.
Shared insight is 1 entry
Oftentimes, things you learn can help others in your cohort. Post an insight on our Telegram cohort chat using the /share
tag. For example, /share <your message>
. Each message shared via /share
is 1 entry and all insights can be viewed here. We encourage sharing any type of insight, big or small!
Frequently Asked Questions
Sensors
- Q: Who do I contact if my sensor breaks?
- A: Please report your issue here: https://app.wearablechallenge.com We monitor this form closely and will respond ASAP.
- Q: Can I get the sensor wet?
- Sensors can be worn while bathing, showering or swimming. Don't take sensors deeper than 3 feet or for longer than 30 minutes. Please note: The FreeStyle Libre system has not been tested in sea water. We recommend also applying the performance covers for protection.
- Q: How do I change my sensor?
- A: Watch this video to learn how! https://drive.google.com/file/d/1eclUPX4-ajVYTZ0bJSAdru1R5Cf3PTOL/view
- Q: What if my sensor falls off?
- A: You can report your sensor issue here https://app.wearablechallenge.com. Sensors can be replaced at a discounted rate of $99.
- Q: Do new sensors have a calibration period?
- A: New sensors have a calibration period, ~24-48 hours, and typically become more accurate the longer you wear them.
Exercise & Sleep & More
- Q: Do I have to wear the sensor cover?
- A: We highly recommend wearing the cover to prevent sensor malfunction or displacement. Reminder: sensor replacements are $99.
- Q: What if I exercise and go over the challenge limit?
- A: As long as you have logged the exercise in the Levels App, any exercise-related spike will not count against your payout.
- Read about this here https://www.levelshealth.com/blog/glucose-and-exercise
- Q: Is there a grace period for strenuous exercise?
- A: When considering exercise-related spikes, we look at a 2 hour window from when the exercise is logged.
- Q: Can sleep cause unexpected spikes?
- A: Sometimes! The dawn phenomenon (aka dawn effect) is an abnormal early-morning increase in blood sugar (glucose) — usually between 2 a.m. and 8 a.m.
- Caffeine increases cortisol, a glucocorticoid hormone, which directly promotes glucose production.
Q: Should I do strenuous exercising?
Q: Other than food, sleep and exercise, what could possibly increase glucose levels?
Stakes
- Q: What if I forget to scan every 8 hours?
- A: A gap in readings will disqualify you from keeping your stake for that day.
- Q: How do I keep my stake each day?
- A: We automatically calculate your eligibility for a payout based on the following: 1) You remained under the threshold of 119/dl for the entire day, 2) You had no gaps between 7:00 am and 10:00 pm (your time zone) and 3) you completed all the challenge objectives.
- Q: Do I keep my stake for the trial days regardless of my results?
- A: Yep! The trial period is a way for you to learn how food and activity impact your blood glucose. It's a great way to experiment before the challenge starts. You must have your sensor on for all three days of the trial.
